London Contemporary Orchestra

London Contemporary Orchestra draws together London's brightest young talent to explore and promote new music to an increasingly wide audience. LCO’s aim is to stimulate and enlighten audiences through dynamic performances and a fresh approach.

Formed in 2008, the LCO has worked alongside a distinguished array of composers and artists, including Jonny Greenwood, Matmos, Anna Meredith, Biosphere, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Mira Calix, United Visual Artists and Foals. In 2010 the LCO was recognised by the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards for its audience development work. Recent projects include sold-out performances at the Roundhouse and The Old Vic Tunnels, Mike Figgis’s Just Tell The Truth at the Royal Opera House (Deloitte Ignite 2011), closing this year’s Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre, and recording Jonny Greenwood’s score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film The Master (starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams). LCO’s performances have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Sky Arts.

LCO's aim in programming events is to showcase a broad cross-section of musical styles and genres. As a result the orchestra is able to draw in a wide range of listeners who will encounter a diversity of new music that they might otherwise not experience. One of the LCO’s strengths is the ability to draw in large crowds to hear uncompromising programmes in alternative venues including the Roundhouse, The Old Vic Tunnels, Village Underground, and festivals as diverse as Latitude and Glastonbury.
