Explore new ways in which music and audiences meet

NEW MUSIC: NEW AUDIENCES is an international network focusing on developing new concert formats for contemporary classical music.

Music organisations and ensembles from 17 European countries participated in a two-year project (New Music : New Audiences, 2012-2014) on audience engagement with the aim of creating and trying out concert formats in tune with a contemporary audience. The project was supported by the Cultural Programme of EU and explored several aspects of the way that new music can meet an audience.

On this website you can delve into all the learning and experience gained in the project and find everything from concert evaluations and audience research through tools and recommendations for improving your own concerts or marketing to inspiration and examples on how to prepare and implement audience research in order to get more knowledge about your own audience.

Last but not least you can look through the NewAud database presenting a great selection of contemporary musical works and composers from all over Europe – all music suggested and tried out in concerts by the ensembles in the network

The project New Music : New Audiences ended in 2014, but the NewAud network exists as an active and growing network of ensembles and music institutions all dedicated to contemporary music and audience engagement.

From 2015 NewAud put a special focus on emerging composers and co-commissioning across Europe.
