Kwartludium in Wonderland – part II

The Kwartludium ensemble is skilled when it comes to performing new music for children.

Last year they did a workshop-concert for children called “Kwartludium in Wonderland”. The concert was part of the Warsaw Autumn Festival, introducing the children to the festival’s “adult repertoire” using children games, playing short examples, activating the children, jumping on pillows - and other kinds of fun.

May 2014 they continued with “Kwartludium in Wonderland – part II” taking the show to Kielce and adapting it to the philharmonic hall of the town.

The question and key challenge of the ensemble had been how to make a family friendly concert and activate children when seated in a traditional concert hall. How do you activate children to music when you can’t ask them to jump on pillows, paint to the music or walk up to the instruments?

For the Kwartludium ensemble, believing strongly that all music can be made reachable for the young audience, the answer to the question was a whole new concert form. It took place “inside and outside the concert hall” and the ensemble was playing on “doors, chairs and corridors”.
